Janani Sridhar, soprano
Raved as having the “loveliest of voices,” Singaporean soprano Janani Sridhar is well known for her interpretation of operatic heroines. Her operatic highlights include: Micaëla (Carmen), Rusalka (Rusalka), Alice (Falstaff), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), and Violetta (La Traviata).
Opera companies that Janani has been engaged with include Singapore Lyric Opera, Martina Arroyo Foundation, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Salt Marsh Opera, Opera Providence, Toledo Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, LOLA, Fort Worth Opera, and Charlottesville Opera.
Equally at home in concert repertoire, Janani’s orchestral engagements include collaborations with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Orchestra of the Music Makers, Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Stony Brook Baroque Players, Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, Salt Marsh Opera Orchestra, Des Moines Metro Opera Festival Orchestra, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Baroque Artists of Shreveport, and the New England Symphonic Ensemble.
A passionate proponent of contemporary music, Janani has premiered works by American and Singaporean composers and has had the honor of working with composers Jake Heggie, Libby Larsen, Evan Mack, and Tom Cipullo.
Sought after as a pedagogue, Janani has served as an adjudicator for the Texas Private School Music Educators Association, and National Association of Teachers of Singing, as well been invited to present at conferences, and speak on panels as an industry professional. Her previous teaching appointments include Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Centenary College of Louisiana. Janani is thrilled to serve as the Voice Area Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Voice at DePauw University.
Some of Janani’s recent performances include: her debut at Carnegie Hall in Poulenc’s Gloria, Scarlatti’s Christmas Cantata, Bach’s Coffee Cantata, Eulalie Shinn in The Music Man, and a series of recitals in Texas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, and Louisiana. Janani was also part of Cincinnati Song Initiative’s inaugural program, The Fellowship of the Song, where she was 1 of 5 singers selected to be part of the residency. Janani is thrilled to join Opera Today as Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors as part of their inaugural season.
